The Department of Computer Science and Automation (CSA) was established in 1969 as  “School of Automation”. It initially began as a Centre and later acquired the status of a Department. Ever since its inception, the department has been a pioneering academic centre for higher education, research, and innovation in key areas of computer science. The vision of the department is to enable India’s excellence in the world of computer science and automation. The driving mission for the department is to advance the frontiers of research in computer science and automation and offer world-class pedagogical and research experience to its students. The department attracts best of talents, faculty and students,  who contribute to cutting-edge research in topical areas of computer science and are actively engaged in many high impact collaborative projects. CSA alumni include renowned academicians, leaders in computer and IT industry, distinguished scientists, and trendsetting entrepreneurs, both within India and abroad. The department has been consistently rated highly in many international comparisons.

CSA  is celebrating its Golden Jubilee Year during August 01, 2019 to July 31, 2020. As a part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, the Department is planning several events and initiatives. These include
  • “CSA Frontier Lecture Series” to introduce the audience to a wide gamut of research topics in computer science from highly renowned researchers from all over the world.
  • “Theme-Based Workshop” focussed on cutting-edge research  topics involving eminent researchers from across the globe.
  • A series of events on Entrepreneurship to bring together alumni, faculty and students of IISc, with the broader entrepreneurial ecosystem of deep technology companies in an effort to engage, explore and expand the entrepreneurial activities.
  • A  Golden Jubilee Conference.
  • Alumni Events for networking and engaging with CSA Alumni.

In view of the COVID-19 situation, we regret to inform that the CSA GJ conference as well as all other Golden Jubilee events are postponed.  While this is very disappointing to every stakeholder – organizers, partners and CSA family, we believe that this is the safe and responsible thing to do in these difficult times.  We will reassess the situation in December 2020 and announce the revised schedule.  Any inconvenience caused in this regard is deeply regretted.

We have resumed the CSA GJ Frontier Lecture Series as an online event. We are also planning to conduct some of the theme-based workshops as online events. Stay tuned for these announcements.
