Congratulations to Prof. Vijay Natarajan for receiving the Alumni Award for Excellence in Research (Engineering) – 2026
Prof Vijay Natarajan’s research work involves the construction of novel geometric and topological structures over scientific data. These structures aid the analysis and visualization of data by automatically locating interesting features. Vijay, in collaboration with his students at IISc, has developed robust and computationally efficient combinatorial algorithms to construct key topological structures: Reeb graph, Morse-Smale complex, Extremum graph, and Jacobi set. Further, he has applied these novel topological feature-directed analysis and visualization methods to solve challenging problems in diverse scientific domains including structural biology, materials science, meteorology and oceanography.
