The mathematics of value-based reinforcement learning approaches

Series: Bangalore probability seminar - https://www.isibang.ac.in/~d.yogesh/BPS.html (First talk)

Speaker: Gugan Thoppe (CSA, IISc, Bengaluru)

Date/Time: Aug 22 14:00:00

Location: CSA Seminar Hall (Room No. 254, First Floor)

Abstract:
Reinforcement Learning (RL) studies the problem of learning in an interactive environment. In this talk, we shall discuss the main optimization problem that underlies RL and the two broad categories of approaches for solving it: value-based and policy-based. In particular, we shall focus on a popular value-based scheme called Q-learning and discuss its convergence and the main reasons behind its popularity. These discussions should provide the necessary background for the second talk.
