Speaker Bio:
Manisha Padala is a doctoral student at the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Sujit Gujar. She looks at how to build fair AI-based systems. Towards this, she addresses research challenges to ensure fairness in AI-based decision-making. The fairness here could be individual or group fairness. Her approach is to make models as simple as possible-- easy to understand and provide theoretical and empirical guarantees.
She has 10+ research publications, including A* venues such as AAAI, IJCAI, and AAMAS. She received the best paper award at the first conference on deployable AI and the best paper runner-up award at PRICAI'22. She completed her BTech from IIT Jodhpur in 2017 and is expected to graduate soon. She is actively collaborating with Adobe Research, Google Research, and UNSW, where she has done research internships.
