Why Not Semi?

Series: Department Seminar

Speaker: Dr. Pradeep Ramachandran Senior director KLA Research

Date/Time: Apr 10 10:00:00

Location: CSA Auditorium, (Room No. 104, Ground Floor)

Abstract:
Semiconductors have become the corner-stone of the digital transformation that we are witnessing today. These semiconductors, however, are some of the most complex components ever manufactured owing to their infinitesimally small dimensions and stringent requirements for precision. Semiconductor manufacturing therefore requires advancements in nearly all walks of engineering from computing to physics to mechanics and to material sciences. This talk will introduce you to the fascinating world of semiconductor manufacturing and highlight why being at the forefront of all the above disciplines of engineering is a key requirement to a successful career in this industry. This talk will also highlight how KLA, a pioneer in this space, leverages state-of-the-art innovations in AI, computing, and HPC in its process control tools that are critical for semiconductor manufacturing to enable the digital transformation that we are witnessing today.

Speaker Bio:
Pradeep Ramachandran a Senior Director in KLA, and heads KLA\'s Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Computing Lab (ACL) based out of IIT Madras Research Park. He holds a Btech from IIT Madras, and an MS and PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Pradeep research interests are in developing optimal system level solutions by co-optimising across algorithms, hardware, and software; his work under this theme spans the fields of fault tolerance, chip design, video compression software, and HPC systems design. Pradeep enjoys cooking, travel, running outdoors, and rolling on the ground with his 6 year old son!
