Programming Test for MTech (CSE) Admissions
MTech (CSE) Admissions:
Applicants to the MTech (Computer Science and Engineering) programme of the Department of Computer Science and Automation, IISc, will be required to participate in a Programming Test.
Offers of admission will be made based on the applicants’ GATE score (70% weightage) and Programming Test score (30% weightage).
Details of Programming Test for 2023:
The Programming Test will be conducted online on April 14th, 2023 using the HackerEarth platform. The applicants can log into the platform from 9am (on April 14, 2023).
After the login and before the actual Programming test (i.e., before reading the questions and writing code), applications will have to upload identification-related documents on the HackerEarth platform. This step usually takes less than 5 minutes (and depends on the upload speed at the applicant’s end).
Once this initial id-related step is complete, the test can be initiated; see Note (2) below. It is the applicant’s responsibility to (complete the mandatory upload and) initiate the test latest by 9:15am. Once the applicant has started the test, it will run for a continuous duration of 120 minutes; see Note (1) below. The 120-minute Programming Test will test the applicant’s skills in Algorithms, Data Structures, and Programming, based on the GATE (Computer Science) syllabus. The applicants will be allowed to use any language of their choice among C, C++, and Java.
The link to the test will be sent by email to short-listed students closer to April 14, 2023.
An email, with the link to the test, has been sent to the shortlisted candidates from support@hackerearth.com on April 8, 2023.
Candidates should make sure that they have received the email; do check the spam folder, if required, and read through the platform (HackerEarth) instructions carefully.
Since the test will be conducted on the HackerEarth online testing platform, applicants are encouraged to try out the practice tests at https://www.hackerearth.com/practice/
We recommend the Basic Programming, Data Structures, and Algorithms tests to familiarize oneself with the testing platform.
Instructions for the test are sent out to the candidates from the email address office.csa@iisc.ac.in. Kindly look for an email from this address. In case you have not received the email, please check your spam folder for the email.
Note (1): The candidate must start the actual test by 9:15am at the latest. The button to start the test will be disabled at 9:15am sharp for test takers, and the test cannot be restarted for any individual test takers under any circumstances. There will be no compensatory test for those who are unable to start the test by 9:15am.
Note (2): As mentioned previously, an identification-related step is required before the actual programming test. This step entails (1) providing the IISc application ID (just providing the number will suffice) and (2) uploading a (scanned) copy of the applicant’s identification; a copy of any one of the following will suffice: Aadhar, PAN, Voter id, Driver’s License, Passport. Keeping both a copy of the id and the IISc application ID ready, before the login, is strongly recommended.
